Warm Glass Elements

The adventure continues....

So we started with opals...

We decided to carry quarter sheets, half sheets, and full sheets of just about every glass in Bullseye's line. Jody insisted on carrying even more of some colors. I think we have a lifetime supply of French Vanilla, one of her favorites.

And continued with frit...

Our landlord wanted to know what you use this stuff for. We told him it was glass, but I don't think he believed us. We have around six racks of the stuff. Now that she's finished the floor, Sam spends most of her time moving the frit from one size container to another.

And nearly drowned in art...

Some arrived in boxes, some in crates. Some by truck, some by mail, and a few wrapped in tissue paper and stuffed in an oversized envelope. At its peak, we filled two rooms with cardboard boxes. Twelve artists so far, with more on the way. Countries represented: the US, Canada, Great Britain, and Australia.

Work on the gallery continues...

Only eighteen pedestals, three or four racks, and two sets of shelves to go. You can't see them here, but there are four lines of track lighting overhead and four huge windows at the front of the gallery.

Don't forget the back of the building...

Our plan is to finish the gallery and shop first, then the studio. Fortunately, our next class isn't for several weeks.

A good shot of the back area, before the dividing wall...

Sam's floor ends where the wall will be. The rest is a tangled mess of tools and wood and sweat. The kilns will be to the left, storage and counter space to the right, and in the middle will be six large classroom tables of varying heights (not all people are the same). In the rear and to the left will be cold working equipment and the sandblasting setup. And we didn't forget the kitchen sink -- we'll have two.

Did we mention Jody's space?

In the back of the building, off to the left side, we plan two rooms, one for Jody to call her own (she got the window), and the other because two rooms are better than one.

(If the picture looks crooked, it's because Jody's so excited at having her own space. I don't think she could keep the camera still.)

We think they're called kilns...

...or something like that. We haven't figured out what they're used for yet, but we hope too soon. After all, we have six of them, in all different sizes and colors. These are the blue ones.

Not white...

Brad wanted everything white, Jody wanted color on the walls. So we compromised -- kept the main walls white and gave Jody the bathroom to paint as she wished. It's not quite done -- there are glass tiles coming, too, as soon as we can figure out how to use those kiln things -- you can bet they won't be white, either.

Stay tuned, more photos on the way,

just as soon as we figure out how to plug in the kilns ....
